NOWEFU Splits, Fon Teche Faction Reinstate Barister Ntumfor

The tussle that has for months been rocking the one time revered North West Fons’ Union-NOWEFU because non respect of laid down rules and greed has now reached decisive point.  Meeting in Bambui on Friday 29th May 2015 and in what observers have described as a drowning move, the Fon Teche-let Faction in a communiqué read to the press, reinstated Barrister Ntumfor Nico Halle as the spokesman of the NOWEFU after his “suspension” in October, 2008.  Those who viewed such a move with some mistrust, questioned why it came only at the time when attempts were being made by Fon Teche (out going NOWEFU president) to extend his mandate and remain at the helm of the union.
This move of his met with stiff resistance especially from enlightened Fons of Donga mantung Division that wanted their turn at the presidency of NOWEFU. Fon Chafah, one of the pillars and the founding Father of NOWEFU was also categorical in calling Fon Teche to order. In a petition addressed to SDO and several copies made authorities of the republic, Fon Chafah debunked the “Kaduna” Mafia (which he was part) which hitherto dictate affairs in NOWEFU and told Fon Teche to respect the constitution.
Subsequent to the Bambui meeting which by all indications was not attended by many Fons especially those worthy of the salt, another faction spearheaded by Fon Chafah was to hold a meeting on Saturday, 28th May here in Bamenda.  Drastic measures according to sources were to be taken to put order in the chaos caused by the out going president. This meeting was to be attended by what is referred to as the “Big Five,” coopted Fons from Donga Mantung and other divisions. But following the preemptive meeting of the Fon Teche-let faction in Bambui, the meeting was called off and reprogrammed for a date yet to be communicated.
The tussle at NOWEFU now seems to be a fight between Fon Teche and Fon Chafah. The suspension of Barrister Ntumfor Nico Halle, according to the communiqué reinstating him by the Teche-let faction was unilaterally done by probably Fon Chafah and as such was arbitrary and “nefarious.” From the wordings in the communiqué, exchanges they have been having of recent, it is but obvious that both men do have scores to settle. The reinstatement of Ntumfor is just to hurt Fon chafah after Fon Teche’s desparate attempt to hold on to power, observers say.
Although the Bambui meeting addressed some of the burning issues related to rotary presidency, the NOWEFU constitution and the distribution of tittles many observers see the tussle far from over. Who would go to whom for reconciliation? Perhaps if Ntumfor were to accept and come back to his role as Ntumfor, he would have been better place to broker reconciliation between the factions. What is obvious is that as it stands now, Donga Mantung Division would on the 29th November provide the next NOWEFU president.
While Fon Chafah would be girding his loins to convene and hold another meeting with renowned Fons of the region, Fon Teche would be girding his to probably hand pick one of his supporter from Donga and Mantung to become a doll President.
