The teachers’
Association of Cameroon-TAC considered the brainchild of the GCE Board has warned
the GCE Board and the government of the republic of Cameroon for toying with
teachers over the protracted payment of their marking allowance. The making allowances to markers of the last
GCE were partially paid “in spite of the enormous sacrifices” teachers made in
the marking of the last GCE examinations.
The warning
which is contain in the resolutions arrived during a meeting held in Buea by
the National Executive committee-NEC meeting on the 6th of February,
2015 makes clear to government of the impending boycott of the 2015 marking
session of the GCE examinations if their claims are not resolved.
The NEC meeting did not only address the nonpayment of the
teachers allowance but touched on a variety of issues which are currently
affecting the smooth functioning of Cameroons Anglophone sub system of
education. Some of the issues raised
included the arbitrary admission of student teachers in HTTTC Bambili and the
consequent deployment of these student teachers to teach the Anglophone students
during teaching practice in a language completely strange to them. Also the
concept of contract teachers, the recruitment of PTA teachers and the non
publication of the entrance result into HTTTC Kumba were addressed and
government told to redress all these with immediate effect.
However, TAC NEC members pledged their support to the Head of
State and the Cameroonian armed force as well as those from Chad in the fight
against Boko Haram. They also commended the gesture of the African Union in
their decision to send 7500 soldiers to help Cameroon and Nigeria eradicate the
Boko Haram insurgency.
Another key issue was the convening of the 2nd
National Convention in Buea on Thursday February 26th, 2015. The
convention which is an elective convention would be held under the theme
“Consolidating TAC’s achievements 24 years after.”
